Teaching Modeling Guidelines

Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Mathematical Modeling Education - Second Edition

Guidelines for Assessment and Instruction in Mathematical Modeling Education (GAIMME) enables the modeling process to be understood as part of STEM studies and research, and to be taught as a basic tool for problem solving and logical thinking. GAIMME helps define core competencies to include in student experiences, suggests assessment methods, and provides direction to enhance math modeling education at all levels. A mix of professionals were involved in writing and reviewing the report to ensure that a variety of levels and perspectives are presented. GAIMME is freely downloadable below and from both the SIAM and COMAP (Consortia for Mathematics and its Applications) websites. The second edition includes changes primarily to the “Early and Middle Grades (K–8)” chapter.
